What does DiskShift do?
DiskShift is a desktop application designed for macOS and Windows that gives users a visual, interactive map of their storage drives. Instead of clicking through nested folders or guessing why a hard drive is full, DiskShift visually displays folders and files as proportional treemap blocks.
DiskShift performs storage scanning and local file search on your computer. It does not upload file contents, file names, folder structures or scan results to a cloud dashboard.
How does DiskShift work?
Choose a drive or folder, let DiskShift measure the storage it can access, then review the visual map and file lists. You decide what to open, keep or move to Trash.
What can DiskShift find?
- Analyze Disk Space: Visualize drive usage with an interactive treemap where block size matches file size.
- Find Large Files: Instantly discover gigabyte video exports, old disk images, ISOs, and virtual machine files.
- Find Duplicate Files: Locate duplicate downloads, redundant backups, and identical photos.
- Clean Unnecessary Files: Safely clear application caches, temporary logs, and app leftovers.
- Understand Storage Usage: Categorize storage by media type, projects, developer caches, and system files.
- Manage storage locally: Review storage results on the device where the scan runs.
Is DiskShift the same as the S.M.A.R.T. “Disk Shift” attribute?
DiskShift (available at diskshift.com) is a desktop software application for macOS and Windows. It is not the S.M.A.R.T. hard-drive attribute commonly called “Disk Shift” (Attribute 220); the two are unrelated.
Which platforms does DiskShift support?
DiskShift is available for:
- macOS: Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 11 Big Sur or newer.
- Windows: Native 64-bit builds for current supported Windows versions.
How does DiskShift handle privacy?
DiskShift is designed around local storage review. Website, support and payment information are handled separately as described in the privacy policy.
Where can I download DiskShift?
Use the DiskShift download page to choose a Mac or Windows build and review the current requirements.
